KinKi Kids World is for all English-speaking KinKi Kids fans who, despite the language barrier, have found themselves falling in love with KinKi Kids and their music, this is my humble attempt to bring us all closer to the world of KinKi Kids - Domoto Tsuyoshi 堂本刚 (244) and Domoto Koichi 堂本光一(51).
The contents of this blog are based primarily on contents found in other Chinese blogs, as I have only just started learning Japanese (which is とても むずがしです i.e. very difficult). I wish to thank all the Chinese Kinki Kids fans for their hard work and efforts in translating the Japanese materials/information on the KinKi Kids.
Created on 21 Sept 2008. Note: If you are an only fan or cannot accept KKL, please do not view this blog.
This year is the 15th anniversary of KinKi Kids' CD debut. However, many fans have been bemoaning the fact that there does not seem to be any celebration activities. Koichi and Tsuyoshi have both been busy with their solo performances. Even up to now, there is still no news that there will be the annual KinKi Kids' year end concert!
There have been rumours that Johnny's Entertainment agency does not care about the older idol groups and the management is only focused on the younger idol groups. I have to say with great regret that I do think the rumours are true. The management appears to just want easy money and the power that comes with being in control of the younger and more popular groups.
Just as one begins to wonder whether KK themselves care about KinKi Kids, they sent out a very clear message to all the KK fans out there - they do care!
24 Sep 2012 - Hey! Hey! Hey! (Live telecast)
Credit to: littlemo5124BKoichi appeared on Hey! Hey! Hey! live telecast to perform his solo song
- Danger Zone from his new Gravity album. Koichi was performing
outdoor and it was raining
The host asked him what would be his answer to the question "Eh?! Is that really so?".
He jokingly replied "Isn't it dancing in the rain?".
Then he flipped over his answer clipboard and on it, it is written:
(Even though it is our 15th anniversary...)
Koichi: Downtown is 30th anniversary? Takki & Tsubasa is 10th anniversary? KinKi Kids is 15th anniversary but there is totally nothing planned
Koichi looked to his right side and asked, "Why am I alone today?"
Downtown: Is there really nothing planned for 15th anniversary?
Koichi: None. (All the fans were going "ehhhhhh.....?!?!")
Koichi: I did ask whether it is true that there are no activities planned. The year is ending already.
Downtown: You need to quickly resolve that matter! (Downtown burst out laughing)
Koichi (laughingly): Sumi-masennnnn? (Excuse meeeeee...?) (I think Downtown cracked a dirty joke here...they are quite notorious for it. I shan't tell you what went through my mind when I heard that......definitely very KKL thoughts! Fufufu!)
25 Sep 2012 - Love Fighter
The next day, Tsuyohi updated his Love Fighter. Just 3 syllabus but enough to touch our hearts!
僕も(boku mo) (Me too)
Good for them! Way to go, Koichi and Tsuyoshi!
Whilst Japanese culture subscribes to obedience, respect for hierarchy, blah blah blah, there should be a limit to what one can tolerate! This is KinKi Kids' 15th anniversary, for goodness sake! How can the agency be so callous and not plan any activity to celebrate it? I never expected Koichi to be the one to raise this on national live TV. If it was Tsuyoshi, I wouldn't be surprised. I thought Koichi would be the type to handle such matters behind the scene. This really goes to show that even Koichi is fed up with the agency and has no choice but to take it up on national live TV where it can't be edited.
This is Koichi in his infamous silver "spacesuit" performing the song "Falling 2009". I have to say though the costume looks a bit funny on photos but the overall effect is quite stunning, with the dance moves and superb lighting effects!
My friend went to Koichi's concert and she said that the dancing was coordinated with the "light balls" such that it looks like Koichi and the dancers were controlling the light balls. We can see this in this video clip and I have to agree that it's really fabulous!
You can see from the screen cap below that Koichi is "controlling" the red ball.
My friend was telling me that the whole place looks like a universe of stars with all the lighting effects and the blue penlights. The screen cap below gives us a glimpse of this but it's just too small and not clear enough. I am wishing for the DVD and it'll be great if Koichi is the one editing it!!!
Finally, I just couldn't resist pasting this screen cap of a smiling Koichi! He's actually very animated in his expressions, very child-like.
On this show, the secrets of Koichi which are revealed: 1) he is good at magic 2) an important presence in his life would be his dog, Pan (bread). (I was hoping it was Tsuyoshi, but if it's a secret, obviously it cannot be disclosed, right?! Fufufuf!)
This video has the talk session. Credit to jecoutdown for the YouTube video:
Mini Station The guest stars were walking into the studio about 2-3 minutes before the show starts and Shingo was there to "disturb" the guest stars. Koichi looked surprised but happy to see him.
This is the part where Shingo introduced themselves as the KinKi Kids! Look at how kawaii Koichi is smiling and look look!...his infamous laugh until his back is bent backwards pose!
Talk
When Ayakashi was introduced as the No.1 song, look at Koichi's surprised look in the top right hand small window. And then he started smiling shyly as he looked down. Kochan is still the same after so many years! :)
Koichi looks so good when he appears to be deep in thoughts. I am very intrigued by his red bead necklace. It looks similar to the one he is wearing in TV Guide and another KK fan commented how similar his look in there was to Tsuyoshi's. I have to say his red bead necklace really looks similar to the black bead necklace that Tsuyoshi always wears recently. I've added a screen cap from a recent DB episode which shows the black bead necklace Tsuyoshi is wearing. It's not the same but the "feel" is similar.
Did you notice his top has silver chains falling down from his collar?! It swings with his body movement. Real cool! Oh, the girl besides him apparently was the lead actress for one of his Shock musical.
Live Performance
Notice the use of the colours of purple, red and blue again in the Music Station stage setup? Is it my imagination or somehow there seems to be more blue this time than in the PV?? (wink wink!)
Love this dance move where they point their finger and then drop it down.
(swooning away......)
This dance move is real cool! Reminds me of Tsuyoshi's Unchanged in Phi Con but the effect here is very different.
And we come to the ending pose! Koichi is so かっこいい ね!
Well, the suspense is finally over as to what is the music style and image Koichi will use for Ayakashi. True enough, when the song is interlayed with Koichi's visual performance, the overall effect is quite good! Whilst both KinKi Kids are good musicians and performers, Koichi is indeed more the stage performer whilst Tsuyoshi is more the musician. Here's some cool screen caps from the PV. I like the dance moves and the scenes where the women "go through" Koichi.
My KKF friend (whose liking is swayed more towards Koichi :P) was disappointed when she heard Ayakashi, as she felt that there was no breakthrough in his music, and it doesn't help that the lyrics of Ayakashi are again written by the same lyricist he used for his previous album, Mirror. Well, as for me, I just can't stand the broken English in the lyrics. And I wish the hand in the PV that was caressing Koichi's chest belongs to a certain someone (those who know will know what I mean! Wink!). Hahahahaha!
Anyway, for those KK fans like me who are feeling very deprived of KinKi Kids (since the 2 have been at their solo performances since end of KinKi you concert...that's nearly 7 months already...Orz), here's a bit of interesting observation from the PV.
Notice the colours of the center pillar in the PV?! Yup, it's red and blue! And all KKF must know red and blue represents who, right?!
And notice the colour of the lighted panes in the backdrop? Yup, it's purple! And all KKF must know what is Tsuyoshi's fave colour, right?! And all whoever has studied some science in school will know what is the colour you get when you combine red and blue, right?! Fufufufu!
Oooh, I must say I like the phoenix (at least I think it looks like one) at the back of his jacket. Very eye-catching!
